Root Canal Treatment Raleigh North Carolina

Root Canal Treatments Cary North CarolinaThe aim of dental care is to try as much and save the natural teeth, gums and other natural tissues of the oral cavity. When the pulp of a natural tooth is destroyed by bacteria, a dentist may recommend removing the infected pulp in order to protect the tooth and prevent spreading of infection to supporting structure and the remaining teeth. The process of removal of pulp of a natural tooth and cleaning the inner parts of the tooth using anti-bacterial agent is called root canal process. The procedure is recommended after comprehensive dental examination and confirmation of infection of the pulp. The treatment ensures that the tooth is out of danger and remains protected for long. If you have been suffering from toothache or tooth sensitivity for long, call us to make an appointment and meet our dentist at the earliest. Our team takes necessary steps to protect your teeth and gums. Through root canal procedures, we have been able to save natural teeth in many of our patients who visit us from Cary NC, Raleigh NC and surrounding communities.

Why is Root Canal Treatment Necessary?

Our natural tooth is made of multiple layers which perform various functions. The top-most layer is called the enamel, which is followed by the dentin and then the pulp. The pulp is at the centre of the tooth and it has nerves and blood vessels. It supplies nutrition to the tooth and is responsible for the growth of the tooth. When a tooth is infected by bacteria, the germs destroy the natural tissues layer by layer starting from enamel. As a result of infection a cavity is formed in the tooth. When the cavity is deep and has reached the pulp, the bacteria come in contact with the soft natural tissues. The bacteria can inflame and infect the pulp leading to toothache. Once the pulp is fully infected, the bacteria spread deeper towards the root of the tooth and the supporting bone structure. Root canal treatment is performed to prevent the spreading of the infection from the pulp to the root and to the supporting bone structure. Once a tooth is fully grown, it can survive without a pulp by receiving nutrition from the supporting soft and hard tissues surrounding the tooth.

Root Canal procedure at Smiles of Cary Family Dentistry

When a patient visits our office with toothache, sensitive tooth or any other symptoms that may indicate dental infection, our dentist firstly makes a note of the symptoms and performs examination. Sometimes X-rays may be required to identify decay which is in invisible spots of the tooth or inside the tooth. If a crack or decay is identified in the tooth, we find out if it the bacteria have come in contact with the pulp. If our team finds out that the pulp is infected, our dentist Dr. Ferzli may recommend root canal therapy to prevent spreading of the infection. Root canal therapy is performed with the help of local anesthesia. The tooth is numbed, dried and is isolated from the surrounding teeth using a rubber dam. The decayed portion of the tooth is removed and an opening is made in the tooth so that the pulp can be accessed. The pulp is carefully removed and the root canal is cleaned using a dental file. An anti-bacterial agent helps kill the remaining bacteria inside the tooth. The root canal is then sealed using appropriate material and the tooth is filled with dental fillings. The tooth is then prepared and a crown is bonded over it to complete the root canal therapy. On completion of the treatment, our team explains patients how to take care of the tooth and prevent infection in future.

Jill is an awesome hygienist. She really was thorough and explained a lot about the art of flossing. I was impressed with how detailed she was with my cleaning. Dr Ferzli was very nice and again through. The office staff was very efficient with patients and keeping social distancing and cleanliness. I was impressed with how they kept the flow going and was absolutely happy to wait in my car outside until they called me to come in to meet staff and hygienist. I had a full cleaning, and gum exam. I would definitely refer Smiles of Cary to my friends
