Cosmetic Dentistry Raleigh, NC

Advancements in modern dentistry allow cosmetic dentists like Dr. Ferzli to offer their patients brighter teeth, shapelier gums, and a revitalized confidence. Dr. Ferzli stands at the forefront of cosmetic dentistry and constantly trains and continues his education on the advances, procedures and equipment that can benefit his patients. He and the staff at Smiles of Cary use proven procedures, materials, and state-of-the-art tools to create beautiful, natural-looking smiles.

Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry allows patients to improve their oral health and the look of their smiles through a number of aesthetic procedures. Advances in dental technology allow Dr. Ferzli to treat your teeth and gums with materials that last longer and look better than ever before. Previously, silver-mercury amalgam was the standard filling. It did not bond well to teeth, it decayed over time, and did not adapt well to changes in temperature because of foods. These types of silver feelings are also unsightly, but new materials include porcelain and composite, which match teeth more closely. They also bond well with natural teeth and can actually strengthen them. Dr. Ferzli uses techniques that are minimally invasive and allows patients to retain as much of their natural teeth as possible.

Cosmetic dentists have undergone additional training. They are able to use their knowledge of general dentistry and have built upon it with additional training and education that is used to combine art and science into beautiful smiles. The addition of dental technologies like the CEREC 3D machine mean it’s no longer necessary to go to multiple specialists to receive cosmetic dental procedures. We perform a large number of procedures in-office, making it convenient to achieve a total smile makeover in one trusted location. Advanced procedure technology means shorter recovery times meaning you’ll often leave our office with a healthy, natural looking smile.

Dental Technology Provided by Smiles of Cary

iTero Scanner

The iTero Scanner is a newer dental technology that allows us to create a digital map of your mouth to help with dental procedures. The tool allows us to treat our patients more effectively than the alternative of taking traditional dental impressions. With the iTero Scanner we are able to use the digital images of the mouth to help create restorations such as:

Before the iTero device was created large metal trays were used with liquid plaster against the upper and lower jaw to form impressions that were used to create restorations. These impressions could be uncomfortable and were time consuming to create. With the iTero Scanner discomfort is reduced and the goop that was associated with the traditional method is no longer needed. The result is more accurate digital imagery created by high quality snapshots of your oral cavity.

Cone Beam CT

A Cone Beam computed tomography (CT) is a more efficient, safe, and compact version of a regular CT device with added benefits. The cone shaped x-ray beam, scanner size, radiation dosage and time it takes to scan are all dramatically reduced. The device is easily accessible by patients and the radiation dosage is up to 100 times less than that of a regular CT scanner. Other benefits of the cone beam CT are the advanced technology built into one machine.

Unlike a basic x-ray machine that can only view the bone structures of the head or a MRI machine that can only view blood vessels and soft tissue, our machine is capable of providing clear images of the bones, blood vessels, and soft tissue. It can be used to diagnose a variety of cancers, view tumors, and is mainly used in our office to provide clear images of bone, muscles, and blood vessels to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries such as TMJ.

Jaw Tracker (ENG)

Our Jaw Tracker or electrognathography unit helps us to assess our patient's conditions when they are experiencing craniofacial pain. This machine allows us to diagnose patients who may believe they have a problem, assess their existing problems, and measure the therapeutic progress they have made after we have started treatment. We use this in conjunction with our joint vibration analysis (JVA) equipment that allows us to pick up noises that the jaw joint makes when it opens and closes. With this equipment we are able to determine the health of the joint and work to develop an accurate treatment plan that is centered on the patient's individual problems.

Zoom Light for Whitening

The excitement around the Zoom Whitening products has to do with their ability to quickly and safely whiten teeth. Part of this process involves their ergonomic Zoom Chairside Whitening Lamp. This lamp uses a proprietary bulb that emits an optimal bleaching spectrum that helps to brighten smiles. The Zoom lamp is designed to be easy to use and has been shown to deliver over 40% better whitening results than gel alone 30 days following the procedure.

Spectra Fluorescence Caries Detection System

The Spectra Caries Detector is a tool that aids in the detection of plaque and caries. Early detection of these maladies helps us to prevent our patients from early stage enamel cavities and hard to detect fissure caries. This tool allows us to catch problems before they arise and help treat our patient"s teeth before things get problematic.

Diagnodent

The Diagnodent laser diode is much like the Spectra Caries detection system in that it helps us to detect and find cavities. This tool quickly and safely identifies the smallest bits of tooth decay and allows us to restore teeth more conservatively and goes along with our minimally invasive practices.

CEREC 3D

The CEREC 3D machine has revolutionized the times it takes for dental restorations to be made. We are now able to take digital images of your teeth and mill a custom restoration from a solid ceramic block in just a matter of minutes. This negates the need for messy impressions and temporary restorations as well as multiple office visits. We use this machine for crowns, inlays/onlays and veneers.

TekScan

The TekScan Occlusal Analysis machine allows our Cary practice to have a tool that aids in the diagnostic process of analyzing a patient"s bite to show how it is functioning. Poor bites can cause pain, broken restorations, gum disease, tooth loss, headaches and TMJ disorder.

Intra-oral Cameras

Intra-oral cameras are our patient's favorite technology! These cameras allow the patient to see the issues or concerns Dr. Ferzli is describing on a high quality screen. This imaging equipment is used for patient education, higher case acceptance, and improved patient communication.

Digital Cameras

Digital dental photography is not a new technology but helps to enhance the dental experience by allowing the patient to see a digital rendering of what their teeth will look like before they have a procedure. This allows the patient and the dentist to work together to create the smile of their dreams.

Velscope Cancer Screening

Velscope cancer screening technology helps us diagnose patients for cancer and helps to save lives. By providing a patented illumination that causes the healthy cells in the mouth to fluoresce in bright green and showcasing concern areas with a marked lack of fluorescence we are able to locate oral cancer and other maladies.

JVA Joint Vibration Analysis (H2)

The JVA system is based on measuring the principles of motion and friction within your mouth. If the surfaces in your mouth create lots of friction and vibration this technology will detect it. The machine is fast, non-invasive, and is repeatable allowing for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of TMJ.

Kodak Intra-oral Digital X-ray System (H2)

The Kodak Digital X-ray System utilizes high-frequency technology to provide high-quality image definition and allows us to generate sharp images of your mouth making diagnosis easier and more accurate. Additionally the machine produces minimal radiation exposure delivering up to 25% less radiation than that of a standard generator.
